Season Opening Update

Opening day on Saturday is just around the corner and everyone is getting excited including our great team of staff who have been putting in the hard yards over the past few days to get the final pre-opening jobs completed.

It was fantastic to see a good turn-out of members and friends at the pre-season party last Monday night at the Twisted Hop which was a great chance to catch and meet the staff who had all begun their induction process that day.

There’s been a mixed bag of weather over the past few days and this carries on through until around Tuesday next week – its anybodies guess what the weekend will bring as the forecasts keep changing! Please check in on Saturday morning either via the website snow report  or call the Snowphone 383-8888 extn. 2 for the latest info on opening, snow, weather and road conditions. A brief forecast for the next few days is published below.

Events kick off very shortly with the Chill Gromfest on Saturday 13th July and the following weekend we are running the Snowride & Cheapskate Skier / Border Cross – more info below.

Chill Gromfest – Saturday 13 July

This is a fun – have a go – race day for “Groms” – skiers aged 6 to 12yrs – but older children are welcome to join in. So Families come on up bring your children, and their friends. Everyone is welcome to have a go. Prizes a plenty.
The course will be set up – a dual Downhill / GS – so race your mates – and improve on your times. Registration 10am in the Cheeseman Day Lodge.

Snowride & Cheapskates Skier / Boarder-Cross – Sunday 21st July

Come and race your mates, and others – down Cheesemans’ Boarder cross track. Everyone gets at least 2 runs after a warm up period.

  • Prizes for age groups and classes.
  • $10 to enter – Register in the Day lodge on the morning.
  • 10am – warmup
  • 11am – race starts
  • Also look out for all the Demo gear that you can try.

Practice Days for school students – 28th July & 18th August

  • Race gates set up for the day for school children to practice on a race course.
  • Timed runs available between 11am and 1pm
  • Register in the Day Lodge in the morning

The weekend is looking very windy but on the positive side there’s snow in the Forecast! Please check in via the snow reports on Saturday morning for the latest update on opening and weather.

Next week is looking clear and sunny from Tuesday onwards.

    06 JulyRain about the divide with heavy falls, and snow lowering to 1000 metres. Rain spreading further east at times.

    Wind at 1000 metres: Northwesterly gusting 120 km/h in exposed places.Wind at 2000 metres: Severe gale northwesterly 90 km/h turning westerly in the afternoon.Freezing level: Lowering to 1500 metres.

 

  • Sunday

    07 JulySnow about the divide, a few showers further east. Strong gusty westerlies, severe gale in exposed places, easing in the afternoon.

  • Monday

    08 JulySnow showers about the divide, and fine elsewhere. Southwesterlies, rising to gale in exposed places.

  • Tuesday

    09 JulyFine. Little wind.

  • Wednesday

    10 JulyFine. Not much wind.
