Cheeseman E-News - 1st December
Welcome to the first of our Off Season updates since we closed for 2010 back in Early October. Summer is most certainly here now as we enjoy the long warm days and with Christmas under a month away I'm sure many of you are looking forward to holidays and some hard earned rest & relaxation?
The Mountain
The summer landscape is once again back with virtually all traces of Snow now gone. Various groups have been staying at Forest Lodge over the last couple of months enjoying the stunning summer surroundings and weather. We have a couple of weddings coming up on the mountain with one before Christmas and another in February and there is further interest from other groups also to utilise our facilities in the New Year.
A small amount of work has got underway including the Cable Scan of the Haul Ropes by Cookes and as summer advances workparties will shortly get into full swing - see more on these below. Calcon have an excavator back at the Hogsback to re-align the river after some heavy rain that was experienced during the season altered the rivers path back towards the new Bridge Abutment.
The Committee met in early November and has planned its summer priority list which now needs to be implemented over the upcoming summer period. Much of this is on-going maintenance and repairs but is a very important aspect of keeping everything running well and looking tidy. Again we rely heavily on workparty assistance to undertake this work so please show your support and come along on one of our enjoyable workparties.

Workparties
Workparties have kicked off with the mechanical team last Sunday servicing and greasing the Ridge Tow. This was a small scale workparty which was a slightly spur of the moment decision and hinged around weather which turned out to be spectacular with clear skies and virtually no wind - It was one of those rare occassions in Summer when you didn't mind standing on top of the Ridge enjoying a gentle warm breeze and the stunning views!
The next formal workparty over the weekend of December 11th & 12th will be based at Forest Lodge and will include Firewooding and building projects. Team leaders are Dave Hinman (Firewood) and Mal Dowding (building) if you are interested in helping one of these groups for either a day or the weekend please Contact Us.
There are no formal workparties organised for January as many people are still away on Holiday but from February through until May there will be workparties on the 1st weekend of every month. We are looking at holding the popular Family workparty weekend again and this will most likely be in March. Stay tuned for further details in future editions Cheeseman Chat and E-News.

Website & Email Addresses
Some years ago when the club first registered its Domain name for a website we chose to run with a .com version and in more recent years a decision was made to chance it to .co.nz to reflect the fact that we are based in New Zealand. The .com Domain name and email addresses have been retained and have been running in the background since that change but as of the New Year they will no longer be used so we ask that you check your address books and if you still have an email address using .com that you please update it to .co.nz this is also the case with your website Favourites list.
Lodges Available For Hire
A reminder to everyone that our Lodges are available to hire for the summer period from October through until the end of April.
Forest Lodge is available for a flat rate of $500 / night and can sleep 38 people - discounted rates apply to members bookings. The Daylodge and Snowline Lodge are also available for hire - prices are available on request.
Don't forget all the great activities that are available in the Craigieburn area & beyond including:
* Mountain Biking
* Hiking
* Nature Walks
* Bouldering
* Caving
* Climbing
* Abseiling
* Fishing
* Boating at Lake Lyndon
* Swimming
The list could go on but even if you aren't into any of the above activities its just a great place to go a relax and spend time with friends. Check out our Summer Page HERE.
Thats our lot for this edition of E-News. I hope to have 1 more out before Christmas so until then take care and enjoy the summer weather.
Regards
