Wow doesn’t time fly – Christmas was a month ago and January has almost slipped on by too! Hopefully some of you were able to enjoy some time away over the break or may be you’re heading away shortly now that the masses are back at work and school will be back soon?
The weather certainly threw just about everything it could at us over the Christmas break but lets hope for a more settled February and March as further workparties get underway.
A small amount of Maintenance has got underway again on the machinery side of the operation with the groomers and Main Tow receiving some attention over recent days. We await some nice weather to attack maintenance on the Ridge Tow as recent weather including Nor’westers has been against us! Unfortunately the strong Nor West winds in early January caused a little damage around the base area – nothing too serious but it just goes to show the power of Mother Nature!
Be sure to mark your new Calendars with our opening day for 2013 – Saturday 6th July. Planning and preparation for the season is going well and we are currently working hard on securing some new staff to compliment our team of dedicated returning staff.
You should have received your membership renewal invoice so don’t forget there only 7 days left to pay your discounted earlybird membership subscription – after the 31st January normal rates will apply.
Forward this E-News to your friends and family so they can also get the benefits of Early Bird club membership at Cheeseman.
If you haven’t received your subscription invoice or would like to join as a new member please email us on office@nullmtcheeseman.co.nz
The events Calendar for the 2013 season has been set and can be viewed by clicking here. Again we are hosting many popular race events and there are a few fun events in the mix too.
The new website should be live about March / April so please be sure to keep an eye out for that and we are working on having a 2nd webcam running this year which will be located further up the mountain to accurately show the awesome conditions that are not seen from the base area webcam.
Saturday 19th January saw another good turnout of helpers to start on the section of track between the Cheeseman Road and Dracophyllum Flats. Work focussed on cutting a switch in below the frost flats tussock land to get rid of the boggy water scoured section of the old track. Check out the Facebook page “Castle Hill Hogs Back Track” for updates and pics.
The next workparty is on Saturday 9th February – get in touch with Paul Weber if you can help 03 318-8624
On Saturday 23rd February is looking busy with the Flock Hill annual bike race and also the Gravity Canterbury Cross downhill event.
We’ll be back in touch soon – until then enjoy the summer weather.
Regards
Cam and the Cheeseman Team.
